Autotrain

December 20, 2021

Friday, we went to Craig & Janet's because Alesa & Craig's sister Tracy and her husband Pat were back in Florida visiting from Grove City, PA. Alesa helped prepare a dinner and we had a nice visit and were joined by Zack and Cathy and their kids. Sunday, we drove to Sanford and boarded the Amtrak Autotrain for the trip to Lorton on the way to Mike's. The incoming train was held up so we departed two and a half hours late. We had a very nice Roomette with two facing reclining chairs with a foldable table in between with two large windows. Although it was dark most of the way. There was a refreshment center at one end of our car which had coffee, tea, water and cocoa. We were served a full "take-out" dinner in our room with wine. I had a steak and Alesa had some pasta. Our porter made up our seats into a lower bunk and lowered the upper bunk at our requested time. There was a restroom just one door down. We slept comfortably and well and had a nice continental breakfast in the morning. We did arrive two and a half hours late and had to wait about an hour and a half for our car to be unloaded. We were nearly the last ones to get our car. It was then a 3+ hour drive up to Mike's in fairly heavy traffic but we were never stopped but for a few seconds. Mike fixed us a nice salmon dinner and we had great visit. We are now heading to bed for a well-deserved rest.
