AZ2- The Salt River

June 1, 2021

Had a great night's sleep and we both woke up ready to go. Had breakfast at McDonalds and shopped at Fry's grocery store for some essentials plus. Danielle and Bailey went to work, Bri slept late and Jeff was working. At 1:30 everybody was back home, awake and fed. Jeff and family's friends, the Pecks, stopped over and we all headed to the Water Users Recreation Site in Tonto Basin, AZ for tubing down the Salt River. About 29 miles north of here. Jeff and John inflated all the floats, loaded the coolers with ice and beverages and we schlepped them down to the river from the parking lot while Jeff and John took one of the cars down to the exit point. We linked all the floats together into six float rings around each of two floating coolers. One ring being the adults (me, Alesa, Jeff, Danielle, John and Andy) the other being the young adults (Bailey, Bri, Bre, Ash and Ky). We slathered sun block on ourselves and shoved off. It was a nice relaxing float with some small rapids and brushed through some overhanging branches. We were expecting to see some wild horses on the riverbanks but no joy although we did see a river otter. After about two hours and more than a few beverages (have to stay hydrated) we emerged at the Pebble Beach Recreation Area. Deflated the tubes and headed home for dinner. A fellow Prep graduate (Ken Felix) has a son living in Gilbert and he and his wife, Jan, were in town for their granddaughter's bat mitzvah. They are flying back to Erie in the morning so we went to his son's house for a visit, less than a mile away. Had a great visit and Jeff & Danielle finally got to meet Ken's son and his family.
