Bayeux Tapestry

October 21, 2021

Today we are doing the Normandy Beaches. We are going to the Commonwealth beaches because we have already been to the American beaches and would like to see the Bayeux Tapestry in addition to the other beaches; Gold and Sword, both British and Juno, Canadian. It was 2 hour bus trip from Rouen but we did get to sleep. Our group was very small, 8 people, as opposed the American Beaches which had over 100. Our first stop was in Bayeux to see the tapestry and eat lunch. We weren't allowed pictures of the actual tapestry (which is actually an embroidery) but they did have a replica where we could. The tapestry is 70 meters long we were provided audio boxes which explained the tapestry as you moved along. It tells the story of William, the Duke of Normandy, and his conquest of England in 1066. We then walked through the rain to a very nice French lunch.
