Bridget's arm and Papa's heart

September 27, 2011

It has been a medical week. They came to measure for our new countertops last Monday then we went to a Medicare seminar. It's getting to be that time. On Tuesday morning I went to the VA hospital in Philadelphia for a four day stay. I have had an Afib and the last episode lasted a long time so I wanted to get it checked and fixed. They checked for blood clots (there were none) and then waited a few days and monitored me while I took drugs to settle my heart and thin my blood. On Friday they shocked my heart back into rhythm and started me on other drugs. They changed drugs so I had to stay for a few more days while they made sure I had no adverse reactions. I finally got home on Monday and feel very well. I had been getting short of breath and those problems are all gone. They also found a small mitral valve leak but my problems are all minor and easily fixed as heart problems go. We will watch things and determine if fixes are necessary. The cardiologists are from the Univ. of Pennsylvania so I am in the best of care. Tonight we got a call from Jeff and he and his family were at the emergency room because Bridget had fallen while she and friends were practicing cheerleading. She broke her humerus close to the elbow and they will wait until the swelling goes down before they cast it, it was a clean break and should heal well. She was in good spirits and excited about what color the cast should be. Tomorrow we will be prepping the kitchen for the countertops which will be installed on Thursday.
