Bye Bye Birdies and Bats

May 12, 2018

Alesa had her follow up Dr.'s appointment on Monday and is doing fine, better every day but still limping. She has spent the week getting ready for a platform tennis tournament which was played today. It was her concept and she is running it but not playing in it. It is based on 'Bunco' and the players play a short set then the winners move to the next court and change partners and so on. They keep track of their wins and losses and prizes are awarded at the end. Actually, it worked out pretty well and the players enjoyed the change of pace from the norm. She called it "Bye Bye Birdies" because the "Snowbirds" have headed north and they are pretty much down to the permanent residents or "Frogs". Those who are here 'till they croak and "Snowflakes", those who go back and forth.
We went to a meeting held by the villages environmental discussion group on Wednesday where a representative from the Sierra club spoke about the work being done to reduce the amount of fertilizers being used and the damage it does to the ecosystem. There was also a speaker on bats and their benefit to the ecosystem. She had a bat in her hand and one in her collar during her presentation.
