Crumple Island

July 27, 2007

Last Thursday, Alesa & Laura went shopping in Calais while I fished and fixed a fuel tank leak in Steve's truck. We also bought a trailer hitch so I could pull the boat for our trip to Crumple Island. Steve & Laura own one of four camps on a 40 acre island about 5 miles off the Maine coast. We picked up some lobsters from the fisherman and used the GPS in a tenth of a mile visibility fog to reach the island. The landing was a little rough, I likened it to D-day. It was interesting watching Alesa wade ashore in rough seas in one blue flip flop and one black rubber fisherman boot. You just can't make this stuff up. We were there for three glorious days with only Ireland to our east. The tides were at least 15 feet so the shoreline changed constantly. The first night we ate the lobsters and then the mussels and clams we gathered the next night. We came back Sunday and golfed on Campabello Island in Canada on Monday. Tuesday Alesa and Laura went shopping to begin reorganizing her house. (a warning to anyone inviting us to visit) I stayed to fish and relax but the trailer and I had a confrontation as I was dashing to answer the phone. After I stopped the bleeding and straightened my nose (as best I could) all seems well. The two black eyes are subsiding. It did not hurt as much as the stock market.
