Diverticulitis
Alesa wasn't feeling well late last week and on Saturday she started having abdominal cramps. They weren't better on Monday so she went to the doctor. She has had them a few times in the past but they subside. She mentioned this to the doctor who diagnosed diverticulitis and said if they came back to come right into the office. She went in around noon and this time the doctor ordered a CT scan and we went right over and had it done. At 6 pm we got a call from the doctor telling Alesa to go to the hospital ER and get admitted for an IV antibiotic because she had acute div---- with an abscess and it could rupture. We went right over to the Villages Regional Medical Center ER and when we signed in were told they had no paperwork and all tests would have to be redone. We called the doctor and she said the clinic was closed and she didn't have acces to the information she needed to create the admissions order. Her information on the CT scan had been verbal. So, after an hour wait we saw the triage nurse who said that Alesa was in no serious discomfort so it would be at least a 6 to 8 hour wait to see a doctor and then at least another 2 to 3 hours for testing and results. Since that would be morning we decided to leave and return in the morning with the doctor's admissions order. The doctor agreed and Alesa got a good night's sleep. The ER was very, very busy and in spite of the results all personnel were extremely helpful and pleasant. The next morning (yesterday) the doctor called to say she was waiting for the written test results. At around 11 she called back and said that both local hospitals were full, therefore she could not create an admissions order and we would have to wait in the ER for a room. Our best chance of getting a room that day would be at the Leesburg Regional Medical Center (LRMC), so off we went after picking up the written CT scan report.. Both hospitals are 11 miles from us. We checked in at the ER at about 11:30 and the initial contact took all our information as well as vitals and an initial triage. 15 minute later we saw the triage team who said Alesa would need additional test to exactly determine the issue because the report said it could also bean ovarian cyst. 15 minutes later Alesa was called in for a sonogram and 15 minutes later we were in the exam room. The nurse stuck Alesa about 5 times and had to call an EMT who stuck her 3 times them called a 'specialist' who took one try to get an IV started (not the antibiotic). The blood drawn was 'bad' so they sent someone from the lab to draw more blood. She was good and the bloodwork turned out perfect. At 2 the sonogram results were in and the doctor verified an abscess which would probably need to be drained in the morning so they started an antibiotic IV and we waited for a room which finally became available at 8PM. Got Alesa settled around 8:45 and headed home. Alesa is in no pain except for an occasional cramp. Hopefully she can come home tomorrow after the procedure.
