The Enchanted Highway

August 20, 2007

We left Bismarck at about noon after talking with a retired Air Force couple from Florida for about an hour exchanging stories and tips.  We were only going about 100 miles today and spent another hour talking with a Canadian couple at a rest stop on the way.  We crossed the Missouri river (where Lewis & Clark met Sakakawea), crossed into Mountain time and camped at "Camp on the Heart" in Dickinson, ND.   Once settled we took a ride to the "Enchanted Highway" a 30 mile stretch of road between I-94 and the town of Regent.  It is a series of giant metal statues which made for a fun afternoon driving around the "western edge".  We are planning on staying here a few days to golf, visit the dinosaur museum, ride horses and visit the Theodore Roosevelt National park.  The rocks are different than we are used to and include a lot of petrified wood pieces so Alesa is having a good time rooting around in the dirt, but that has not slowed down her shopping.
