First day of Habitat

January 14, 2008

Today was our first day working at the house.  Alesa and I spent the day (8-3) painting.  It is now bright yellow with white trim.  There are a group of young adults with AmeriCorps from around the country helping as well a number of older couples.  We had lunch with couples from Canada, Iowa and York, Pa.  Robert, one of the 'supervisors', wanted me to work inside finishing building out for the drywall but I figured I'd better stay with Alesa because neither of us likes to paint.  I also figured that since we are working our way into heaven, I could use the extra credit.   It's a 32 mile drive to the site but we take a back way and so far are enjoying the ride through the cattle ranches, over the bayous, through the refineries, shipyards, fishing fleet and pass all the incoming tankers as we drive along the Sabine Pass.  By the way, it's pronounced like "it's a bean" without the "it".
