Florence/Pisa
Docked in Livorno as our port for Florence/Pisa. We have selected and optional tour “A Day in Tuscany” to get the feel of Tuscany rather than the crowded tourist destinations. The weather finally caught up with us today as it as it was cool (55) and rainy all day. We dressed warm, wore our raincoats and had a Viking umbrella. It didn’t rain hard and we used the umbrella mostly when we were standing in open areas. We took an 1:45 bus ride through the countryside to the town of San Gimignano. It is a medieval double walled UNESCO town with a skyline of towers. We had a tour and an hour of free time when we shopped and had coffee in a café. Then off to a local farm ‘Fattoria Poggio Alloro’ for a tour and lunch. We went through the winery and a barn of cows they are raising for steaks in their restaurant. For lunch we had many wines (Chianti), cold cuts, cheeses and many forms of the fruits and vegetables grown on the farm. It was an excellent lunch with a very good guide. We had a restful ride back to the boat ( in the dark) and it seems everybody else in our group has crashed for the night. It was another memorable day even in the rain. We are now on our way to Monaco and the seas are a little rough. Walked by the pool tonight and it was sloshing from side to side.
