Goodbye to Beaumont

January 26, 2008

Wednesday we went back to the house but it started to rain so we had another rain day and went back to the trailer and relaxed some more.  That evening Hank & Kathy took us to a great restaurant, Fogo de Chao, in Houston together with Dan and Michele.  A great meal with great people.  It was Brazilian with a large salad bar and they walked around with different cuts of meat for your consumption.  Take note, never trust me to tell you when you've had enough to eat.  Yesterday it rained again so we went to the warehouse and cut out wood pieces for building sheds.  We went to the house this morning but it started to rain again.  We waited for a while because we really wanted to finish the deck but it was not to be so we went back to the warehouse and helped in the Re-Store.  This is Habitat's retail store for selling extra donated building material, both new and used.  We had lunch with the Jefferson County Habitat Executive Director and met the Volunteer Manager/Gulf Coast Recovery from Americus, GA - the headquarters for Habitat for Humanity International.  Tomorrow we pull up stakes and head to Lafayette for the Frog City RV Park.  We will be there until Wednesday.  We will tour the area, attend a Mardi Gras parade or two and try to hook up with the local Habitat before heading off toward New Orleans.  We had a wonderful time during our "tour of duty" with Jefferson County Habitat and with to thank our supervisors; Dave, Robert, Trey and Troy for their direction and help over the last two weeks.  Congratulations to our volunteer coordinator, Casey, who had her second child on Tuesday.  It was another boy.
