Happy New Year

January 6, 2012

Thursday morning I went to HUP (Hospital of the University if Pennsylvania) for my AFibAblation. We had to be there at 6:30 AM then after the paperwork waited for 3 hours for a room. They were building a new building next door so at least I got to watch heavy construction equipment in action to pass the time, actually I kind of enjoyed it. When I got to my room they realized that they had not done the MRI so I had a CTScan instead (long story). On Friday AM I went in for the procedure which took over 7.5 hours. I was under anesthesia so Alesa had the long wait. I was flat on my back the whole time and then had to lay another six hours and wasn’t allowed to raise my legs or head. My back hurt so much even morphine didn’t help. When I sat up after six hours, the pain disappeared immediately as I used the muscles and bent my back. The doctor used a fairly new procedure (freezing vs burning) and all went very well and he said I had a very healthy heart. Saturday afternoon I was able to go home and have had no complications, just a lot of bruising. HUP did a great job and everyone was so competent, friendly and helpful. Sunday we shopped, watched football and relaxed. Alesa has been great through all of this and driving in and out of the city. Monday we went to Jeff’s to watch the Wintertime Classic with Bailey, Tuesday I had follow up appointments at the Coatesville VA and today we picked up the truck from the dealership. It needed new headgaskets and a turbo rebuild which would have cost about $4K but it only cost me $180 for the deductible and a transmission cable. The warranty expires next month, whew, we just don’t have that kind of luck. Sloan Ford did an outstanding job.
