Heather Oaks Farm

August 25, 2020

Finally resolved our cancelled October cruise. Since Viking cancelled it they gave us a voucher equivalent to 125% of what we paid or the option to get our money back. We rebooked for 2021 but learned that not all discounts were carried forward and it quickly got very complicated with all the options and unknowns and getting four souls to decide on a single course of action. I called customer service and wrote an email and after a number of calls, they reapplied the discounts as shipboard credits. So, we and the Schaeffers are headed to France in early October of 2021. We were also able to modify the dates on our travel insurance. The hurricanes are missing us but we are having a bit of rain which keeps me busy mowing the lawn and Alesa busy trimming the plants. We have started playing pickleball again with friends and continue to golf, platform tennis and water volleyball as the weather allows. Trying to schedule some time with Craig and Janet so the four of us can take a nice long bike ride together. We have also signed up for the streaming service "The Great Courses" and keep busy watching a number of very interesting courses. Today we headed out to Heather Oaks Farm, a pick your own place, to check things out. It was confusing at first as there was no store, just a farm with a lot of farm buildings. As we got out of the car, a lady (Maria) came out from the chickens, and greeted us. She was very personable and we had a long conversation. It was grape season but we were not particularly interested in picking grapes but we did buy a dozen farm fresh eggs and she gave us a package (24) of quail eggs to try. They sell what they raise and grow on an informal basis. For example, if you want eggs, she showed us a room with a small fridge. If there are eggs, you pay with the honor system. They have eggs, blueberries, grapes, honey, vegetables, fresh chicken and we are looking forward to exploring their other offerings.
