Hernando Dragon Boat Festival
Thursday we enjoyed a water volleyball instructional session which was great fun and we will be certain to play more. Last night we ate at the Hacienda Hills Country Club with our backyard neighbors. They had told us about an all-you-can-eat fish and chips dinner and it was excellent (and filling). Today was spent at the Hernando Dragon Boat Festival about 23 miles west of here. Alesa's team, "This Boat Rocks", won every one of the three heats they raced but finished out of the medals due to times. They did extremely well for a recreational team and they were all deservedly very proud and had great fun even with the constant rain all afternoon. Their times were only a few seconds off the winning boats which were crewed by much younger paddlers. On the way home we stopped at the brand new Eisenhower Recreation Center. It is dedicated to the military and veterans and is top notch and very impressive; and according to Alesa is "some kind of beautiful". It is full of cabinets of military memorabilia donated by The Villages residents. We look forward to exploring it in more detail and taking full advantage of all it has to offer.
