Hurricane Irma

September 11, 2017

We came through Irma unscathed with only a papaya tree down and a few missing branches and a lot of missing leaves. There is a lot of high water and the storm sewers are full up to the grates. Flooding is limited to the golf courses and open areas. We have been outside but there are still tropical storm winds/gusts about so we have not been out of the neighborhood. We slept fairly well last night but I did get up at 03:30 to check the TV for an update. Irma was right on top if us at that time and I suspect the winds were around 85 mph. I am impressed by the integrity and soundness of the homes and their ability to withstand the hurricane force winds with none/minimal damage. A few roofing shingles were lost across the street. Also with the infrastructure as we never lost power or any other utilities. Also the layout of the community to limit flooding to retaining ponds, common areas and golf courses. If you take worry out of the equation, it wasn't a bad experience. When I looked outside at the peak of the storm it was an eerie experience as the rain was being atomized by the high winds, it looked like a cloud chamber out there.
