Lady Down

March 22, 2025

Alesa had her first bike ride today since her surgery and all went well. First, she took a short ride around the neighborhood to see how she felt and, later, we took a longer ride. As we headed out on this longer ride, I spotted a lady lying face down on the grass on the other side of the sidewalk. I stopped and called to her but no answer or movement, so I got off the bike and walked toward her as I got my phone ready to call 911 and revisited my CPR procedures. She didn't answer until I touched her shoulder then she raised her head slightly and said she had fallen and couldn't get up. She rolled over and sat up and wanted help to get up so she could walk home. When Alesa got there, we decided I would ride home and bring the car back to give her a ride home. As I was pulling the bike into the garage my phone rang, and it was Alesa who said that Jeff just happened to be riding by in his golf cart and they were going to take the lady home. When I got back on my bike, they were just pulling off the grass. They got the lady safely home to her husband, Jeff headed home, and Alesa and I finished our bike ride. By sheer coincidence Jeff and a friend, Peter had just finished their round of golf here in Trilogy and decided to take a detour and visit us on the way home and passed by the scene. Alesa's ride went very well. Her arm was just a little sore afterwards and she said that was about as far as she could go. In other news, after having our car for two weeks, I noticed a 'ding' on the windshield which started spreading to about the size of a nickel, if you can remember how big that is. I took it to Safelight this morning and they patched it and all is well. They say windshield 'dings' are a common thing here in the desert, to which I can attest since I had to have the Explorer windshield patched last year. Also, last week the top portion of my phone stopped working. Everything worked fine but I could not initiate anything which had to be touched on the top half of the phone display. Having a similar problem a year or so ago I knew it was only a matter of time when the whole screen would be non-reactive. So, I headed to Verizon on Wednesday and after some haggling, they agreed to replace it for $49. FedEx brought the new one on Thursday but we weren't home and they needed a signature so they did bring it on Friday morning. But, how to back up or transfer my data with a partially working screen. I found that by looking up apps that only showed on the top of the home screen or the 'all app' screens (namely settings) and then turning the phone so the result could be seen on the bottom part of the screen, I could start it up. Doing the same with and within the needed apps I was able to transfer all of my information and factory reset my old phone before returning it. The only remaining problem is that I cannot turn it off but that is their problem.
