Mackinac Bridge

August 14, 2007

We left this morning rushing to get over the bridge so Alesa could breathe again.   As you know, she is very apprehensive about flying and bridges.  About 10 miles south of the bridge we got a blowout on the trailer.  It took about an hour and a half to get the spare mounted with roadside assistance and another hour and a half to get a new tire mounted on the rim as a spare.  We drove to Mackinaw City to the base of the bridge and they had to have one delivered from Cheboygan.  In spite of the 3 extra hours to think about the bridge crossing she did very well, even taking pictures.  We then took 2 west to Rapid River about 100 miles west of the bridge.  It was a beautiful drive along the northern shore of Lake Michigan on the Upper Peninsula.  Much of the time we were within 100 yards of the water.  It was more like driving along the Atlantic shore north of Daytona Beach than along the cliffs of Lake Erie.
