Micanopy

March 15, 2011

Yesterday we went to the old town of Micanopy, Payne's Prairie State Park and then to Cross Creek to see the home of Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings.  Micanopy is the first town created by the US in Florida and is on the national register of historic places and was where they filmed 'Doc Hollywood'.  At Payne's Prairie we saw alligators, wild horses and eagles but no bison.  Rawlings won the Pulitzer prize in 1939 for her novel "The Yearling".  We enjoyed the ride through the countryside and the rolling hills with all the horse farms around.  It is beautiful country.  Today we drove about 50 miles to Bushnell and are settled in the Red Oaks RV Resort for the next three nights.
