Montreal
Yesterday afternoon we arrived in Montreal and spent the rest of the day watching football and especially enjoyed the Eagles game. The night before we left Sugarloaf, we had had a problem with the diesel in our truck gelling (freezing) and stalling the truck every mile on the way to a dinner but the temperature rose during the day and we had no problem on the trip to Montreal. No problems with customs either although, knowing we were from Philadelphia, he asked why we were coming that way and he also reminded me to sign my new replacement passport. Today we went downtown. We stopped at the front desk to get some suggestions and I asked if we could drive halfway into town and take the metro from there but I was told "You are already half way into town". I didn't question her and we just drove into town. We went into old-Montreal and Old-port, parked on the street and walked around for awhile. It was very nice but cold and the sidewalks were covered with snow and ice and quite slippery so we shortened our walk and visited the Basilique Notre-Dame de Montreal. We then drove to the Olympic Park, Le Mont Royal (the origin of the city's name) for a great view of the city and then drove back to the Hampton Inn through a number of neighborhoods before getting on the interstate and stopping at PFK for lunch. (PFK is KFC in French) For the rest of the day we will be in the fitness room and pool. We are off to Lake Placid in the morning.
