Munds Park RV Resort & Flagstaff

May 16, 2007

We checked into Munds Park at about noon today and after we set up we went into Flagstaff about 15 miles north on I-17.   Flagstaff is a great mountain city (7,000 ft.) and ski and college town.  It was created by the railroads in the late 1800s and a large freight train goes throught every 10 minutes.   We ate a late lunch and did some shopping.  When we came out it was quite dark to the south and we had left the windows open in the trailer so we hurried back.  On the way we were hit with a hail storm so we stopped hurrying.  The road and forest ground were white with hail and I am surprised the truck had no damage.  The hail was more like slush rather than ice and splattered loudly on the windshield.  It was a well defined front so as the road turned we were in and out of it.  We came across a small car which had flipped a few times but it was surrounded by helping vehicles so we kept moving.  We made it back before the rain hit and it was only a sprinkle when it did.  Our plan is to go to Sedona tomorrow and stay here another night.  It is very nice here and with the smell of hot and damp pine, it is our idea of camping.  We are at 6,700 ft. and surrounded by national forests so there is plenty of hiking.  The high was 75 today and the low is expected to go below 40.  A welcome change from the 100+ degrees of the desert.   Our next stop will probably be the Grand Canyon.  I hear the channels changing so A must be up.  She will probably want to shoot pool.  Yea, they have a couple of tables too.
