Napoleonville & Plattenville Louisiana

January 31, 2008

It was a warm sunny morning with forecasted storms so we battened down the trailer and headed north through Thibodaux to Napoleonville where Alesa's dad was born and then to Plattenville were his mother was born.  We toured both towns and visited all of the Catholic cemeteries.  We have pictures of about 50 Barbier and Guillot graves.  Leonie and Laure were Bill's aunt and uncle.  The highlight of the day was that at Assumption Church graveyard we found Alesa'a great-great-grandfather's grave, Octave Barbier who came from France to manage a sugar plantation.  As you can see from the pictures all burials are in large crypts mostly above ground to keep them from floating away in storms.  Some have not fared too well, we even found bones in one.  We then went to visit Roni and Denny who are camping just west of NOLA.  We passed through a very heavy rainstorm as we were driving along the Misssissippi and then again as we were eating dinner at the Marshall's.  We were glad to see when we got back that, while we had a lot of rain, everything was fine.
