Ormond Beach

March 31, 2009

We left Silver Springs late this morning and after a beautiful 70 mile ride through the Ocala National Forest arrived at the Sunshine Holiday RV Resort in Ormond Beach.  Flat Stanley and Monk sat quietly in the back seat enjoying the trip.  It is supposed to be a rainy evening so we bought them raincoats, dog raincoats at the dollar store.  We had to buy Stanley a larger size because his head is so big.  We stopped to show them the Daytona Speedway and they are now sitting on the carmel apple pie we bought for dessert anxiously watching Betsey prepare dinner.   --  We ate dinner and later were joined by Betsy's friends, also from Maine, Don and Jan Webster and we had a great evening of conversation.  Don had been shot down over the English Channel and was a POW in Stalag 17 (same as the movie which was written by a pair of Stalag-mates) and escaped just before the war's end.   He was an engine assembler and procurer at the GE-Lynn plant and then ran a local country store just south of Calais and we had a lot in common.  He was very sharp for 89 and tells a heck of a story.
