Out with the old and in with the new
It was time for a new cooktop. The old one worked OK, but it was small, old, small pots could tip due to the large openings in the grate and the large burner got persnickety at times and needed some help to light. After some searching, we decided on a GE profile because it had five burners, a large flat cooking surface and the controls were in the front. It also has an inner ring in the large burner for simmering. In addition, since the old one was also a GE profile we knew it would fit in the existing hole in the granite countertop. (If not, GE would pay for any changed to make it fit.) And. to our surprise, it also came with a cast iron griddle which can be used on the left two burners. We already have an outdoor griddle, but, hey, it may come in handy on one of those 110+ degree days. The old one came out easy except for a tight pipe connection which took the bench vise to separate. The new one went in with no problem and we are now enjoying our new cooktop. The old one, now piled in the garage will be put out for bulk trash day next week. We have trash pickers cruising the neighborhood on those days so it may have a second life as so many of our other discards have had in the past.
