Patriots Point

April 3, 2007

Today we went to Patriots Point just across the river and toured the Yorktown (aircraft carrier),  the Laffey (destroyer), the Ingham (CG cutter), the Clamagore (submarine) and a mock up of a Navy Vietnam base camp.  The visit to the Laffey was especially poignant to me because my Uncle Eddie Bauer was killed in the first battle of Savo Island when the radio room, which he was manning, of the U.S.S. Cushing was hit by shellfile and later sunk in Iron Bottom Sound.   Another great day and we are now home watching movies.  Tomorrow we tour a Tea plantation and visit the shore.  We will be leaving here on Thursday morning to return home on Friday.  Sounds like we are going to have to winterize the trailer before we leave.
