Redding, capital of the other California

September 6, 2007

We went down the coast and turned East which made Alesa's day.  We came across route 299 to Redding.  It was a beautiful trip but had a lot of ups and downs and sharp turns.  We were on the North bank of the Trinity river most of the time which meant Alesa was looking over cliffs; not good!  We drove through BigFoot country but we only saw a big wooden one in Willow Creek.  I can see why he lives there because it is wild, hard to reach country.  It was 102 when we got here so we turned on the air conditioner and went out for Mexican food.  Stopped by the Sundial Bridge on the way home at dusk.  It is a pedestrian bridge over the Sacramento River in downtown Redding.  It has opaque glass planking and is lit at night.  It is an actual sundial and tells accurate time on June 21st.  We have a nice view of Mount Shasta in the distance.  We watched much of the NFL opener.  It started at 5PM and was over at 8:35.
