River trip to Paris

October 23, 2021

While the two optional tours for the afternoon were out, Versailles and Louvre, we stayed on the ship to pack because we have already been to both in the past. The boat set sail for Paris as they were leaving, they will rejoin the boat back in Paris. Guessing at the numbers but, as the crow flies, we are about 10 to15 miles from our final (and original) docking point but on the Seine it is about 50 miles. Needless to say it is very, very snakey. It took but a few minutes to finish packing so Alesa went to the lounge to relax and read and I went to the bow to enjoy the ride. The sun deck was closed because we had to pass under a number of low bridges so everything was lowered above to include all the railings and the pilot house. I was very impressed by the ride up the Seine as it was picturesque and the shores were very active. Houseboats and restaurants lined both shores. I was surprised as we went north of the city and then how close we came to the city on the west passing between the Arc de Triomphe and the Grande Arche de la Defense before continuing south and then north to our dock. We had to wait for two other boats to use the locks heading downstream before we could enter and we were a little late arriving at our dock so people had to wait on the buses until we docked. I was impressed by that last lock because the gate rotated under the boat rather than opening doors. During our trip we had to provide 2 mls of spit the night we arrived and every day before we ate or drank anything for PCR tests. Today's test will provide the printed results we will need for our travel so no spit tomorrow morning, "Cause de celebrer".
