Sanford

June 26, 2018

The train stopped in Florence at about midnight for a few minutes to refuel and take on fresh water. Alesa was a bit uncomfortable in the upper berth so we switched places and we both slept quite well for the rest of the night. Both bunks were about 7 feet long so I had no problem. The lower berth was made up from the seats so it was a bit softer. We went to breakfast around 7 and the porter (Big Chris) reset our compartment for seating. There were drink and fruit stations at the end of each car so we had plenty to drink. The train arrived in Sanford almost 2 hours late as it had been held up during the night due to thunderstorms and potential flooding. Once off the train we had to wait for our car. They would announce and post the car numbers as they were unloaded. We waited about an hour, about 2 thirds of the unloading, and we got home with no problem. The people taking the northbound train were queued a ways down the road since they could not let them in until all the arriving cars were gone as the same area is used for loading and unloading. Once home we unpacked, cleaned up and headed across the street for a little get-together for Janie. There will be a memorial service in Huntsville sometime in July.
