Settling in

July 7, 2010

We are settling in at Lampe, the campground was packed full for the weekend of the Fourth and is now a third to a half full.  On the Fourth we went to two picnics, Art & Annie and Ray & Debbie.  Monday we took Mike and family to an Erie Seawolves game, AA baseball Detroit farm team.  Everybody had a good time and the girls even shagged two foul balls hit into the parking lot across the street.  Erie won on a third strike, two out passed ball in the bottom of the 11th.  Today we were resting at the trailer in A/C due to the sweltering heat when flares started flying over the campground.  There were a dozen people in uniform on the Coast Guard side of the North Pier shooting off flares.  We are not sure why but they were probably practicing for something.  A couple of people came over to see why there were SOS signals being sent up.  Some flares were on parachutes which drifted over the campground while they were still burning, most floated over but a few landed in the campground and one even burnt through the parachute lines and dropped a foot long sheet metal tube into the campground.  We yelled across the channel and they redirected them closer to the water.
