Skiing Weekend

January 24, 2011

We had snow on Thursday night and school was delayed two hours so Jeff's family bagged school since they were going to be leaving early anyway.  So we left for Erie about the same time and met just north of Harrisburg for lunch.  We caravanned from there to Bob's house.  I-80 was closed just West of Clearfield due to a fatal semi accident and the detour cost us about an hour do we didn't get to Bob's until after 7.  He was tracking our progress on the internet and called for our dinner orders when we reached Tionesta.  That was very nice of him and Cathy and we had a pizza and wings dinner waiting for us when we arrived.  (Thanks, we love you)  We visited, had a rousing game of Jeopardy on the Wii, visited some more and then off to bed.  In the morning after a breakfast with Bob and Cathy we stopped at Urbaniak Bros for some meat while Jeff and family saw the sights,  The kids, and Danielle, especially enjoyed walking on the frozen bay.  Then we all went to WalMart for socks and groceries then off to Peek'n Peak where we were able to check into the condo early.  Jeff, Danielle and Bailey took snowboard lessons while Bridget took a skiing lesson.  They all then spent the afternoon going up and down the hill.  Both the kids learned very quickly and were very proficient at the beginner level.  They then broke for dinner and a trip over to the resort pool and hot tub.  Then it was back out on the mountain till about 9.  Alesa and I just walked around and enjoyed watching the fun.  On Sunday we all went over to the hotel for the Sunday breakfast buffet then back on the slopes.  We got all day lift tickets, I rented skis, Jeff got a snowboard, Danielle and Bailey took a skiing lesson and Bridget took the next level skiing lesson.  Alesa enjoyed the quiet and warmth of the condo and did a lot of walking as well.  After class everybody had fun going up and down the hill.  It was an awesome weekend.  Between skiing, eating and football we were in and out all day.  Alesa and Bridget even had time for another visit to the hot tub.  When we ended the day on the slopes it was already minus two degrees F at the base of the mountain but nobody was complaining. Today after a big breakfast we packed up and after a stop at the hotel arcade and gift shop headed toward home.  We met for lunch at KFC in Brookville and all got back home before 6.  There will be no problem sleeping tonight.
