Trip South - Day 1

February 13, 2013

We delayed our trip south since I had a scheduled echocardiogram for the 13th. Monday the VA called and confirmed the appointment and then on Tuesday called and cancelled it. Go figure! It was only a follow up so I will have it in June with my doctor’s appointment. The weather report was calling for 1-3 inches of snow on Wednesday night so we left Wednesday morning instead of waiting for Thursday. We got out before 10 and we planned to get by DC before the rush and be in North Carolina by about 4 so we would have some daylight to de-winterize the trailer. Well, that was our plan. We headed around Baltimore on I-695 and the Key Bridge since we can’t use the tunnels because of the propane tanks on the trailer. There had been some maintenance so there were detour signs all around but they were covered since the work is done. The covers blew off some of the signs so it got very confusing and dragging the trailer through side roads and finding our way back was not fun. Then, we got a blowout just south of the bridge. I changed the tire and we stopped at the next Wal-Mart and they replaced the spare in about a half an hour, very impressive. But, as I threw the tire into the truck I noticed it was the wrong tire, So, back in we went and it only took them 15 minutes to replace the tire. Now we are about 2 hours later than expected and we hit a lot of traffic around DC and it started to rain about 4. We did get settled in NC at 7:30 rather than 4. It has been a long but a good day and we will sleep well tonight.
