Turf
Wow, haven’t posted in a long time but have plenty of excuses. Found that our irrigation was leaking up through the middle of the driveway. Worrying it would undermine the driveway we needed a quick solution. Digging on either side of the driveway we discovered that the tubing ran through a PVC pipe under the driveway. This made replacing the leaking tube a whole lot easier than the alternatives we had been considering. This also led me to complete another project on my to-do list: relaying the pavers which had sunk a bit on one side of the driveway. In the backyard, Alesa has wanted to move two boulders and a barrel cactus from the middle of our smallish yard next to the pool and open that area up for comfortable seating. She pulled up all the existing turf and I helped her move the cactus to the front yard. I was able to leverage and roll the rocks to either side to open up the middle. She then contoured the area to her satisfaction and put steppingstones across the back for access to the pool equipment area. She moved existing steppingstones from the side of the house. I had made a sifting screen so she could sift the rocks from the soil which made both jobs (front driveway and back yard) a whole lot easier. She was going to plant pygmy palms back along the fence but discovered the pool backflush pipe ran along that area a few inches below the surface and had to change her plans. Shopping for replacement turf, we discovered it came 15’ wide which is the exact distance between the pool and the back fence. So, we mutually decided to run turf to the fence and she then moved all those steppingstones back. We ordered 9 feet of turf but they delivered 10, so we changed plans again to use the extra turf. We sanded the area and laid the turf on Monday, trimmed it yesterday and nailed the edges today. Tomorrow we will lay sand on the top and we will be done. Alesa has picked another small area by the pool and is raking rock so she can lay the extra turf there. My legs are still hurting and I am having trouble walking but I am doing all the pre-surgery tests in preparation for my back surgery on the 24th of this month. Congratulations to our son Mike who competed the move to his new home during the month of September. This in spite of his colostomy bag which is scheduled to be removed next week. We, of course, wish him the best.
