We're off

November 18, 2012

We left home Thursday morning just after 3AM to beat the I-95 traffic around DC and arrived in Brunswick, Ga before 4PM. It was a great trip and the new car was very comfortable. I especially enjoyed the fuel stops since I am used to spending around $100 every 200 miles or so in the truck but was spending about $35 every 400 miles and Alesa enjoyed the fact that I kept to the speed limit to maximize our mileage. We even averaged 45.4 mpg for a time in South Carolina. Friday morning we stopped for a short visit with Gene & Lynn Kutina at their apartment in Jacksonville and called but missed the Pruners, called and spoke with Betsey in Ormond Beach as she was out on an historical house tour, then we stopped at the Breakers in New Smyrna Beach and visited with my cousin Mike and his fiancee Mary Lou and drove by Paul and Carol's old house on Eugenia before moving on to Lakeland to spend the night with Alesa's sister Lynn. Saturday we drove down to Naples and then back up to Ave Maria University with Craig and Janet to see Tracy and watch Annie's basketball game. They won and Annie had a good game. Then off to Steamers in Naples for dinner. Sunday we walked to the Clock for breakfast and back to Craig and Janet's to trim the large tree over their driveway and garage. After planning their new garden we all headed off to home depot, the first of 3 trips that day to buy a new grill and the makings of the new garden. While Alesa and Janet grilled one of the three turkeys in the new grill Craig and I built the new screen/trellis, then we all planned the planting layout. Monday will be a planting day.
