Anaconda and the Old Works

August 25, 2007

We toured the local mountains and canyons before golfing this afternoon at the Old Works course in Anaconda.  The course is on the site of an old copper smelting works and was designed by Jack Nicklaus.  It is very beautiful and the sand traps are black because they used the tailings from the smelting operation rather than sand.  We enjoyed golfing with a couple from Fargo.  They had just dropped off their youngest at college in Missoula and were beginning life as empty nesters.  Jim and Mel had golfed here while honeymooning and were revisiting before spending the night in Big Sky.  They were very patient as they were both very good golfers.  We didn't golf well but the day was very nice just the same.
