Yuengling Brewery and Cabelas Outfitters
November 5, 2008
Today we skipped the workout and played a little. We went to Pottsville, about 60 miles north of here and toured the Yuengling Brewery. It is the oldest brewery in the US (1829) and the second largest American owned brewery behind Samuel Adams. On the way back we stopped at Cabelas in Hamburg and later we both bought new sneakers at the Reading outlets. The tour was very interesting from the brewing process, the Government cellar where the production is metered to be taxed, the bottling process for their Lager, to the caves which were dug to the water supply and to store the beer before the days of refrigeration. We enjoyed the trip snaking through the fall colored mountains of central Pa.
