Lake Aire RV Park and another tire

April 7, 2009

We are now camped at Lake Aire RV Park just west of Charleston.  Yesterday we took a day trip from Savannah to Hilton Head Island.  It was very nice but not our cup of tea.  It seemed a little uppity with no access to much unless you were at a resort.  If you were looking for a picture of the Hilton Head Lighthouse, buy a postcard.  We did enjoy the trip up and back on the back roads with a good look at the countryside and the towns.  It got into the 40s last night and is suppose to freeze tonight before warming up for the rest of the week.  We are in jeans and sweatshirts today.  We got to the resort today with no problem but when we came out of the office, one of our tires had a big bubble coming out of the sidewall which had pushed half the fender skirt off the camper.  I popped it with a knife and it sounded like a rifle shot but the tire stayed hard so we drove to our site and I removed the wheel, went to Wal-Mart and had a new tire mounted then put it on the trailer with a little help from Monk and Flat Stanley.  My guess is the tread separated and let air leak into the sidewall and when it suddenly tore, the rubber inside blew up like a balloon about 18 inches long and 10 inches in diameter.  It was really wierd looking.
