Old friends
On Thursday I went fishing with my cousin Frank, his son Aaron, daughter Kaitlin and dog Michelle. Whew! We caught about 40 yellow perch and threw about as many other fish back. I didn't take any because our freezer is just too small. Aaron will be leaving this weekend for his first year at Youngstown State. That afternoon Alesa and I went to golf at Downing but ended up at Green Meadows because Downing was way too crowded. We played 18 and enjoyed it even though we didn't play very well and tired ourselves out in the heat. We had played there a lot in the past with Alesa's father. After golf we drove out to Ripley to have a couple of beers at Plummer's, a local bar that Alesa was not allowed to visit when she was younger. Therefore she had never been there and it was on her bucket list. Ronda and Denny arrived on Friday afternoon with their motorhome for a week's stay here at the campground. Saturday afternoon Bob Goodman stopped by the trailer at noon on his way to Chautauqua and to meet with Royce Tonjes and his wife, Mary Ann. Royce was our boss at GE before we each moved and Bob hadn't seen him since he left about 25 years ago. Alesa fixed a wonderful lunch and we all had a great visit. We were also joined by George and Char Frank another GE guy who has been busy working on his daughter's new house. That afternoon we rode our bikes with Ronda and Denny to visit the "Celebrate Erie" happening which has State street blocked from 3rd to 11th with stages, kids' activities, food and vendor tents. They used two whole blocks for sidewalk chalk art and hopefully the tarps they had on hand worked as it rained pretty hard last night. While walking at the fair we ran into Niels, another friend/boss from GE about whom we had been talking earlier at lunch, quite a coincidence. The Reading Phillies were in town the last two nights to play the Erie Seawolves and we would have liked to have gone but not enough time. There is never a lack of things to do here in Erie. We will be heading to Corry this afternoon to visit Ronda and Alesa's aunt Betty. Maybe things will be quieter there. We will be back tonight to enjoy the 'Celebrate Erie' fireworks over the bay.
