Marshalls
This was the end of our week with Roni & Denny. Tuesday we took the bikes to the Niagara ramp on the Peninsula and rode out to the North pier and back. On the way home we stopped at Whippy Dip (Banana) and then Kraus Department Store, an old fashioned place which has everything. Alesa has been looking for bluing to make coal gardens. They didn't have any but knew where to get it, Giant Eagle. After dropping the bikes off, Ronda went with us to Giant Eagle and we bought Mrs. Stewarts bluing and a maple coffe cake. Roni and Denny then had us over for dinner. Now that we had the bluing, we needed coal. Since we are camping right next to a coke plant, I figured I could walk their tracks and pick up stay coal or coke. I went geocaching on Wednesday morning and stopped by the tracks and filled a large zip-lock bag with coal/coke chunks. Looks like we will finally be able to make coal gardens with the grandkids. That afternoon, Ann Russell, a dear friend from our Harborcreek days, came to visit from Painesville. That evening we went to Panera's for dinner and then raced a storm home to take the awning down just before it hit. On Thursday we all went for a ride on the Lady Kate, a tour boat sailing from the Perry Monument. It was an hour and a half tour and they did an impressive job narrating the cruise out in the lake and around the bay. On the way off the peninsule we stopped to see the pile of old gravestone errors used as rip rap near the east pier and then toured the TREC. We then had the Marshalls' farewell dinner at the 3 B's Saloon for great beer, bacon and barbeque. Friday, they left in the AM we drove to the Chautauqua Institution to visit the Goodmans who were spending the week. On the way home we drove the back roads through Ripley which we have not been on for a while. Alesa pulled a muscle in her back that morning so it was a slow day and the walking helped. Today will be a healing day.
