September Cool Down/The Niagara is back

September 3, 2010

Still don't have new picture capability but will work on it when I have a chance and will probably back- post pictures as we do continue to take pictures.  Last Saturday night, Bob and Cathy invited us over for dinner and we had a good visit with Bob & Cathy, Jim & Mary Claire and Emmet & Jaimie.  As for Sunday, I'll post our activity if I ever remember it.  Alesa did have a bad back so we probably just rested and she is all better now.  On Monday we went to a Senior 'expo' at the TREC and picked up some good information for us old people.  I did get a chance to visit with the state representative sponsoring the event as he is an old college buddy. (Hornaman) I also got a chance to visit with a couple of people who had worked with my mother at the blind center.  On Tuesday I went Walleye fishing with my cousin Frank and a buddy.  We got 4 plus a yellow perch.  On Wednesday we rode our bikes from here to the Peninsula and back.  We also also stopped and the Calvary and Trinity cemeteries to remember relatives and friends.  That afternoon Alesa went to Campbell Pottery just outside Edinboro and then I went to the VA to register so they have me on their radar.  I also called an old friend from GE days (Noel) and we will be going to Meadville next week for a visit.  Yesterday we took the trolley downtown, had coffee at a sidewalk cafe, attended a luncheon lecture at Gannon University titled "Why tall ships are important to Erie, past and present" and then took the trolley home.  The lecture and the food were excellent.  Back at home we had a visit from Bob and Johanna Gibson, other GE friends, and then went to dinner with them at Valerios.  That night while Alesa watched the US open, I went up to watch a Gannon Football game.  They beat Lake Erie college, 26-20.  It was fun especially since Gannon did not have  football when I attended.  Today is turning rainy and cool, a much welcomed change.  The weather will improve for the weekend as the campground will be full for the next three days.  The Niagara motored through the channel at 4 this afternoon and fired her cannon to signal her return as she approached her dock.  Alesa and I joined the Niagara League this morning so we will be able to tour the ship when we visit the museum.  The WDFOTW is orange sherbert.
