Returned the rental car today and went to Taliesin West, a Frank Lloyd Wright home north of Scottsdale and went through the tour which we downloaded on our phones. We stopped in Old Town Scottsdale for an ice cream sundae at the Sugar Bowl.
Trip Log
Steve’s cousin, Sara, and her husband, Alvin Adams, live in Phoenix and they wanted to visit with them but their kitchen is being renovated so Laura hosted a dinner here for them (and us). Alvin played ball for the Suns from ’75 to ’88 and still works for the organization.
Picked up Steve and Laura at the airport Tuesday evening (the 14th) and had a great time catching up and making plans for their stay. Wednesday morning we took Steve and Laura to Enterprise where they rented a car and drove up to Flagstaff to spend a few days with Steve’s cousin.
We spent New Years's Eve at Jeffs. They were all going out to parties and we were happy to spend the night and watch the dogs. I stayed up until midnight and Alesa kind of did. She was in bed but reading.
Our 55th wedding anniversary was on the 27th and we celebrated on the 28th. We went to a local restaurant, High Tide, recommended by jeff and had excellent meals followed by a complimentary slice of key lime pie for our anniversary. We are looking forward to many more wonderful years together.
Jeff and family came over to celebrate Christmas Eve with us and we Facetimed with Mike and the girls after dinner. Mike had shipped us a package of our gifts so we opened ours and they opened theirs during the call.
Happy Birthday to Alesa. We had a very nice complimentary breakfast at the hotel. Again, it was swamped with families, but the line moved fairly quickly for the made-to-order omelets and everything else was walkup.
Another busy day as we headed to the Santa Monica pier but first we stopped at Randy’s Donuts, another famous place. Iron Man was sitting in the big donut on the roof eating a donut. I got a maple and bacon covered long john as well as a cinnamon roll and Alesa got a maple cake donut.
Today we headed west along the coast to Ventura, Santa Barbara and a little town Alesa wanted to visit, called Solvang, which resembles a Danish town and has plenty of pastries as noted on a cooking channel. Just before Santa Barbara we saw a sign for Santa Claus Lane and we just had to stop.
Today was the start of Alesa’s birthday weekend in Southern California with Jeff as our guide since he spends a lot of time there on business. This morning, Alesa, Jeff, Danielle and I flew from Phoenix to the Bob Hope airport in Burbank.
