May 13, 2007

Today we went to an old (1636) mission out in the desert south of Tucson. As is our way, we took a roundabout way to see more sights, both expected and unexpected.

We left Deming this morning and followed I-10 to the west.  We crossed the continental divide and then entered Arizona.  We gained another hour because, although we are still in the Mountain time zone, Arizona does not observe daylight savings time so they didn't 'spring forward' with the rest of

We spent much of the day today hiking and breaking rocks at the Rockhound state park.  Alesa saw it on the travel channel and has been looking forward to it ever since.  We gathered about five pounds of rocks, some of them gem quality, but we will probably never polish them.  We had a late lunch

We left Alpine and went through Fort Davis and wound through the Davis mountains by the McDonald Observatory.  We picked up I10 and then followed the Rio Grande to El Paso.  We decided we had enough of big cities so decided not to stay in El Paso but went through Las Cruces to Deming, New Mexico.

This morning we went to my dad's for breakfast.  Norma cooked us a very good Texas breakfast and we visited and showed pictures.  Alesa was treated to a free makeover from one of their neighbors, we walked around his lake a few times and then took them and their neighbors to the trailer.  We then

We left at about 10 this morning and arrived in Denton at about 3:30.  The trip went well and we took Texas back roads for the last 70 miles.  They were fine until we hit mall construction in Denton.  We set up at the Post Oak RV park, ate dinner and then went to see my dad.  We are making an ear
