Trip Log

October 29, 2018

Woke up late and had a large, leisurely breakfast and fixed sandwiches for lunch. Rode the tram to the central station and toured the opera house. Walked down to our ferry and checked it but had time before a 4:30 departure. It is a cruise ship.

Bought a 24 hour transit pass and rode a bus out to the viking ship museum, the number one requirement from my little viking. We became experts on the transportation system very quickly and used it to get around. Even rode a couple of loops around the city.

Slept late and had a big breakfast. I then walked around town a little while Alesa read while sitting in the window of our room. We walked to the train station and caught our train to Oslo Center at noon.

October 26, 2018

Slept late and got up to a wonderful breakfast buffet at the hotel with plenty of Norwegian specialties. We then went on a walking tour per Rick Steves (Alesa's bible). It was 32F, sunny and no breeze so it was quite comfortable.

The ship was in Amsterdam in the morning and after breakfast we said our goodbyes to Steve and Laura and headed to the train station. We stored our large 'checked' bag at a close bike rental shop which is part of Bagbandb.

October 24, 2018

Left Cologne last night and and sailed into the Rhine delta in The Netherlands. We arrived in Kinderdijk around 3 PM. It was one of the few, if not the only time, we sailed during the day. Kinderdijk is a World UNESCO site with 19 original windmills.

October 23, 2018

Still in Cologne and back on schedule. We have had to dock at the Cologne Winter Harbor because it was the only area available with depth enough to accommodate the cruise ships. There are many here. We bussed into the city for a walking tour in the morning.

October 22, 2018

After the boat ride we stopped at Marksburg Castle for another very good lunch before touring the castle and returning to the Viking Lofn.

October 22, 2018

They bussed us back down to Assmanhause from Cologne and we loaded on a very nice and large day boat for a morning sailing trip up the middle Rhine and all its castles and Loreli. The bus trips down and back were long but eased by the fact we were riding along the Rhine most of the trip.
