Steve was guiding today so I bought a 15 day Maine fishing license and spent the morning fishing on the stream. Alesa and Laura went shopping in Eastport and Calais. This afternoon I went shooting and driving backwoods trails. The weather has been beautiful.
Trip Log
Today was our first full day in Grand Lake Stream, ME. Alesa helped Laura plant the flowers we brought from our house and I helped Steve patch his raft which was torn during a ride down the stream.
Thursday morning we left Salem and drove through Manchester and Concord to Lincoln and drove across the Kancamagus trail, a beautiful scenic byway through the White Mountains. We arrived at Steve and Laura's at about 6:30.
We left home Wednesday morning on our way to Maine. We arrived in Salem, NH at about 1:30 in the afternoon and went to America's Stonehenge after a large thunderstorm. It was very interesting but led to a lot of "now they're just making stuff up".
We continue to get quotes for ceiling and floor work in the game room. One more due in and we can decide a course of action. Been busy stipping paint off the garage door with a heat gun. I prefer a solid wood door rather than the hollow metal, rumbly ones they sell now.
We have been searching all over for root beer extract to make some home made root beer like we did when we were younger. We haven't had any luck so today we headed out to Lancaster to try the Amish markets there.
We picked up Bailey and Bridget on Monday morning for a couple of days and took them sailing on Monday AM. It was a little too gusty and I was a little rusty so we sailed a few quick laps around the lake, ate lunch and waded a little.
Tuesday we all took the train into Philadelphia for a day of touring. We had planned to visit some museums but didn't have time.
It continues to be a great visit with Craig and Janet. Today is a recovery day after a very busy three days and to be prepared for a walking museum and epicurean tour of downtown Philadelphia. Yesterday both families came for the day with us.
The temperature rose to a steamy 105 on Thursday, perfect for Alesa's brother and his wife Janet's visit from Naples, FL. They flew in on Thursday and, after a bout with bottomless rootbeer floats at Red Robin (Yum!), we stopped by to see Jeff and family before coming home.
