Started the day with coffee and a short walk around the basin. Spent much of the day in the pool playing volleyball and drinking beer. It is still very hot but the heat advisory is supposed to end tonight. We watched golf and Olympic trials.
Trip Log
Today is the day for Bridget to get a tour of her dorm. There was a full travel day planned but it ended up being abbreviated a bit due to the heat. Started the day watching a couple of coyotes walking around the basin which is being flooded.
Today was another hot one so we didn't really do anything very taxing. My hip has been bothering me a little lately so we went to the local VA clinic while Jeff and his family were all busy with other things.
Watched a couple of coyotes walking around the basins while we drank our morning coffee. We golfed at the Ocotillo Golf Club. It is a beautiful Phil Mickelson owned club and was very challenging with a lot of water. All but 4 holes had water hazards on them.
Kept busy but not too busy. Investigated the retention ponds behind the house and discovered they are aquifer recharge facilities known as percolation basins. After wastewater is treated it is used for irrigation.
Jeff led us on a long bike ride. We rode to the end of the Queen Creek Wash Trail and back. A total trip of almost 15 miles. The temperature reached 112 degrees but we didn't pedal fast and stayed hydrated and the ride was relatively flat.
Started the day with a walk around the retention ponds and we saw a desert coyote. Took some quick pictures and it is in the distance to the right of the dumpster. Also took a few pictures of the water system. We then took a bike ride around the block, a larger block this time.
A short walk around the ponds where I found a couple of golf balls and a painted rock which said 'BE HAPPY'. We took a picture and replaced it further down the path. After a large drink of water we rode the bicycles to the gym, about 4 miles one way.
After a day of rest and a good night's sleep we are back to work. Started the day with a 3.38 mile walk around the holding ponds behind Jeff's house and then a 4.55 mile bike ride around the neighborhood with Alesa in the lead to help her get oriented to the area.
Today is my 74th birthday and it was a great day. We took a walk in the morning but pretty much rested all day. I had a chance to catch up on a number of things. Alesa prepared a baby back rib dinner and a birthday cake.
