Trip Log

September 8, 2007

We hopped on I-80 and drove through 175 miles of the Great Basin.  Mile after mile of large dried lake beds.  We are now in Winnemucca (Say it!).  We are at the same campground we stopped at over 20 years ago with Mike & Jeff when it was a KOA.  It is pretty calm today but back then it was so

We crossed the mountains again today but the road wasn't as steep or winding.  There was a haze all day due to the wildfires near Susanville and it got worse as we got closer.  We couldn't get a good picture of Mount Shasta or of Mount Lassen when we stopped at the volcanic park.  Mt.

We went down the coast and turned East which made Alesa's day.  We came across route 299 to Redding.  It was a beautiful trip but had a lot of ups and downs and sharp turns.  We were on the North bank of the Trinity river most of the time which meant Alesa was looking over cliffs; not good!  We d

We drove to Washington Park in Portland. There we visited the International Rose Test Garden and the Japanese Garden. Two beautiful places.  We then drove the Oregon Scenic By-Way/Mt.

September 1, 2007

We went back into Washington for our trip to the coast.  Saw Mount St.

August 31, 2007

We are in Fairview/Troutdale on the eastern edge of Portland.  We followed the Columbia River and finally did see Mount Hood.  Tomorrow we will tour the coast.  After three nights here over the holiday we will probably go to the Redwood National Park in northern California.

August 30, 2007

It hit near 100 degrees today so we toured the tri-cities (Kennewick, Pasco and Richland) in the morning, walked and shopped in the mall, took Alesa to a movie (Harry Potter) in the afternoon and then back to the air conditioned trailer.   We may hit the hot tub and pool again later this evening.
