Left home at 7:30 Tuesday, stopped at the Gainesville VA for my 6 month checkup, continued north and stopped for the night at about 7 in Wilson, NC.
Trip Log
Craig and Janet came up for the 4th weekend. Played pickleball for a few hours each day and cooled off in the pool. 'Scooter the DJ' (our favorite) along with the village twirlers and cheerleaders were at Brownwood on Saturday evening and we all danced the night away.
Been battling the summer heat. Not getting used to it but getting better at dealing with it. It does keep the crowds down at the tennis courts and golf courses but it hasn't kept Alesa and I away. Can't wait to head north next week to see the kiddos.
Happy Fathers' Day and the first day of Summer to y'all. And a special Fathers' Day to our two boys who are raising wonderful grandchildren. We can't wait to see them all next month on our trip north. Yesterday Alesa and I golfed in a neighborhood scramble.
Craig and Janet came over today for the first time since their move, the first of many visits we hope. I golfed and then joined Janet, Craig and Alesa for pickleball then we all went to the pool to cool down. Then up to Lake Sumter Landing for happy hour and entertainment.
Today was a great birthday. Last night the next door neighbor invited us and our cross street neighbors over for a small get together where we visited and had cake. Today we took it easy but did play platform tennis, pickleball and went to the pool.
Yesterday we spent much of the day painting an 'accent wall' on one side of the entryway and under the counter. When the wall under the counter gets kicked it can't be cleaned because the flat paint would just wash off.
Friday was National Donut Day but the Bradenton Rec Center was giving away donuts on Thursday so we didn't have to fight the crowds on Friday for a free donut. Today were the Dragon Boat races in Mt. Dora so I rode over with Alesa so I could visit the Abbates while Alesa was racing.
It has been hot and dry for about three weeks now. Everyday looks like rain in the afternoon but it has not rained here and the lawns are drying up and the ponds are shrinking. Today it finally rained and here's the view from our lanai. (That's Florida talk for back porch.)
Took the golf car to the shop on Thursday and got a loaner so we could still golf. The governor had stopped working so they rebuild part of the transmission under warranty and we picked it up the next day. We had Paul and Carol over for BBQ'ed chicken on Friday.
