We toured the Alexander Graham Bell museum in Baddeck then headed across the island to the Fortress of Louisbourg. Bell did a lot more than just invent the telephone. After lunch we decided to visit but not tour the fortress then do the mine museum tour in Glace Bay.
Trip Log
The Cabot Trail, named one of the best road trips in the world by Lonely Planet, is a trail that winds through stunning landscapes, along the Margaree River, a Canadian Heritage Salmon River, and through spectacular rugged highlands of the Cape Breton Highlands National Park of Canada.
Today was a travel day. We left the Gables and drove to Wood Islands on the southeast side of the island. We caught the 11:15 ferry from PEI across the Northumberland Strait to Nova Scotia, a 75 minute ride. It was a good trip but we didn't see any whales.
We all played 18 holes on the south side of the island where Steve and I played yesterday, Clyde River Country Club. The weather was perfect and so was the company and the scenery.
We went to the 'Green Gables' house then into Charlottestown, the capital of PEI. On the way we stopped to watch them raking for oysters. After a short tour and lunch the girls went to see the play "Anne & Gilbert" while Steve and I golfed 9 at the Clyde River Country Club.
Today we toured the northwest third of the island along a 217 mile scenic drove. Perfect weather and beautiful scenery.
Drove to PEI today and are settled into our condo at "The Gables" near the "Anne of Green Gables" house. Went grocery shopping and ate a great dinner at "Sou'West". Now back at the condo getting ready to attack the island in the morning.
Toured Campobello Island in Canada to include the Roosevelt Cottage, the deep water port at Head Harbor and the Head lighthouse.
Yesterday was Steve's last day of guiding so today was a work around the house day and we got involved with the projects. I sent split wood down a chute into their basement while Steve stacked it for the winter heating season. Alesa and Laura stripped wallpaper from the bathroom.
Nice days here in Maine. It's hotter here then back home in Florida. Went to the farmers market in Princeton. Should be caught up on our sleep by tomorrow.
