We are all home safe this evening after a wonderful week together. We left around 9 this morning and except for some stop-and-go on I-85 north of Atlanta and high volume here and there it was a smooth ride home. We got home around 6:15, Mike around 8:15 and the Abbates around 9.
Trip Log
Another beautiful day. Everyone got up late and began eating leftovers. Chinese checkers, reading and the great outdoors are on the agenda. Mike took 3 of the young adults on a 4 hour 'adventure' around the mountain. Alesa and I took a 2 hour hike to the top of the mountain through the woods.
A little rain last night but not enough to put out the fires but am sure it will help the firefighters south of here a little. Watched parades and the first football game while the ladies fixed dinner. Between games we ate, took a short hike and then back to watch the games and movies.
Mike led us on an adventure today as we explored the paths in the woods. We planned to walk a loop but after a mile and a half it was very overgrown so we turned around and headed back. We are now watching movies, relaxing and preparing for Thanksgiving.
Last night we all played 'Beyond Balderdash' and this morning headed off to Ashville about 40 miles northeast of here. We went north to the Blue Ridge Parkway and drove on it about 30 miles to just outside of town.
After a leisurely morning the ladies packed a lunch and we headed to nearby Lake Toxaway for hiking and a picnic. Turns out there are no parks around the lake for public access.
Cold (24) at night but warmer (64) and sunny during the day. Getting used to our new surroundings. The ladies and I drove to Sam's Club in Hendersonville this morning to stock the pantry. Also stopped at Food Lion on the way back.
In addition to normal activities, most of this week was busy preparing for our trip to the mountains of North Carolina for Thanksgiving week. We rented a house about 40 miles SW of Ashville with Mike and his family and the Abbates.
Monday we had dinner at the Maloney's. They have been in Erie since May and just returned. They bought a condo just off the Peninsula and spent a lot of the summer fixing it up. Election day was interesting but we had voted last month by mail so we did our normal activities.
Had to take a new prescription to the VA clinic on Wednesday so we continued on to Ocala to buy same 'water' clothes. I wanted a racing suit for swimming laps, Alesa wanted a new suit and we both wanted water shirts since it is getting cooler and we want to keep swimming.
